Sorry about the late update, I’ve been so busy with work and my new Dickens costume I hadn’t realized it had gotten so late. Still working on my costume and a new project which I can’t share with you at the moment but when I get the ok in a month or so I’ll post it.

Art-a-thon #6: Stalking the Elusive Quetzal page 7, Wedding & New Dickens Costume
Wedding
Yesterday I went to my friend Heather (Scott Aleric’s little sister) and Sean’s wedding. It was the first wedding I’ve gone to as an adult and the first wedding I’ve gone too in 10 years. It was a really lovely outdoor wedding with some funny surprises. The music was awesome and the food was even better. Most of all Heather looked beautiful and I wish her and Sean all the best in the world for their new life together.
New Dickens Costume
Saturday I drove around town picking up patterns and fabric for my new Dickens’ costume so I can spend the second half of the day walking around as a “normal person”. I’m my case it will be a visiting French artisan. I found a nice periwinkle silk and they were even having a sale so it was $40 less than I thought it would be! Today I hand washed (in my bath tub) my Bo Peep costume since it’s never been washed and after a couple years of wear (this will be the 4th year) it was looking a little dirty. After it dries I’ll make the needed repairs (just a few stitches here and there) and it will hopefully look fresh and new. After washing my first costume I set to work cutting out the new costume’s top pattern pieces which will be modified to look like my friends awesome costume. After that I measured out the right amount of the blue silk for the skirt and cut that. It’s actually just one big 7 yrd. rectangle. Currently I’m sewing on the pleating tape but I stopped to post this. Hopefully I can get the whole thing done by Friday and if I do I’ll post pics of it next week for you all to see.

Art-a-thon #6: Stalking the Elusive Quetzal page 15
Went to see Twilight last night, it was awesome except for the hundreds of squealing 12 your old girls. It was odd really because it was a school night and my parents wouldn’t even let me do that when I was 17. On another note I’ve been working on The Color of Snow cover all day you can check it out here.

Art-a-thon #5: The Color of Snow cover wip
Applied for a few art positions and built a vision/inspiration board today. I’m going to see Twilight at midnight with my family. I have to admit I have not read the books yet or know what happens (I like to be surprised).

Art-a-thon #4: Stalking the Elusive Quetzal page 5
Sent out a packet to Realms of Fantasy magazine yesterday and the RSVP so one of the weddings. Also got CS4 installed on my computer (took forever!) Also got some other things I will need for the weddings. When I got back home before installing CS4 I started painting The Color of Snow cover and I’ll be posting the wip/color study tomorrow.

This is page 5 of the children’s book I’m working on Stalking the Elusive Quetzal. I have almost all the pages drawn then I just have to trace clean copies onto vellum and paint a few before sending it to a publisher.

Art-a-thon #3: Little Kitty page 17
Yesterday I spend the day scouring the mall in search for a nice dress that was not black. I have to go to two weddings and since they’re day weddings, no black. Found a dress I really like after trying on a ton of them. First weddings on Sunday so still things to do and get.

This piece is a sketch for page 17 of my Little Kitty in the City book which I will most likely start working on again after finishing Stalking the Elusive Quetzal.

Art-a-thon #2: Mural
A teacher from a first grade class in PA emailed me over the weekend about a wonderful project their class works on each year. The project consists of them writing (emailing) 100 Authors and Illustrators to ask them to share what their favorite children’s books were as kids so the class can read them. As well they ask for one fact about where you live to share with the class. I am shocked but honored to receive such a letter (email) because even though I am in children’s books I have yet to have published a book. I haven’t a clue how they found me but I’m glad they did.

I came to the conclusion the other day that I have a ton of art that still has not been uploaded to the internet. Here is one such piece a mural design I was working on for someone.

Art-a-thon Challenge
I’ve decided to challenge myself to upload a new piece here and on my DA every weekday and see how long I last. I have an issue with allowing others (other than my studio mate and clients) to see my “unfinished works” so I tend not to update as often as I should or update a big stack of things all at once. So to become more comfortable with this I pledge to upload something new every weekday. But first lets define what I mean by “new art” sometimes it may be a drawing or sketch or a color study or a finished piece.
As well I’ve created a new blog for the Art-a-thon Challenge and you can join too!

New Art
Been working on some new art and character designs for a web comic I hope to do in the near future. I was going through a rough patch in my life but it seems to be getting a little better so that means more art! Was contacted for a project but that fell through, such is life I guess.

APE and Halloween
Halloween was fun. I went to the Illusive Comics Halloween party again and for once there were a ton of people I didn’t know.
APE
Ape was wicked awesome except for the rain. It was raining buckets in the city when we got there and we had to walk a couple blocks to the event. Umbrellas did very little because it was also blustery and the rain was practically raining sideways. So when we got there the whole front of my clothes from head to toe was soaked. First thing we did was eat lunch and then we saw Jennie’s table so we rushed over there. I brought her a goody bag of candy and stuff I had made and we chatted with her for awhile and I got some awesome pins and a sketch form her. You should check out her web comic www.thedevilspanties.com it’s really good. After that we started in one corner and walked down every table which took us till the event closed.
Other cool people I met were:
Shelly Wan whom I got a large beautiful print from because she’s one of my fav artists.
Camilla d’Errico who is the artist of Nightmares & Fairy Tales. I almost cried when I saw her there because I hadn’t brought my book for her to sign.
Amanda Turnage whom I got a cute kitty shirt from.
Sheatiel Sarao of Binary Winter whom I also got an awesome shirt from
Brittney Lee who gave me some cool book marks.
Me ans Jennie Breeden
Camilla Taylor and her cool plushies
