Deviant Art Meet-up at Fanime 2010

It has just been confirmed that I will in fact be hosting the first ever Deviant Art Meet-Up at Fanime 2010! It will be held in Panel room 1 Mariott Salons I & II on Sunday May 30th at 10pm.

This event is open to all attendees of the convention. There is no need to RSVP so just show up and have fun. The meet-up will be a great place to meet other deviants, share portfolios and network. So bring your portfolio, business cards or some snacks to share.

Deviants of all ages are welcome!

WonderCon 2010!

KatGirl Studio will WonderCon 2010 April 2-4!
The event is held at the Moscone Center South in San Francisco CA. We will be at Table AA 41 (the same location as last year)

We will have Matted prints, Giclées, greeting cards, postcards, bookmarks, buttons and our brand new shirts! There will also be tons of vendors, panels and presentations for you to enjoy, so come by and say hi!

APE 2009 Recap

APE Exhibitors Mixer at Last Gasp
The Mixer was held in the Last Gasp warehouse and offices. Nothing more awesome that mingling and drinks in rooms filled with books, carnival side show art and two headed stuffed oddities. We hung out with Emily Martin and her friends from Megamoth Studio next to the Sprectrum books. I even found the YOUR FRIEND THE RAT Little Golden book from Pixar I’ve been looking for for two years.

APE
As it turned out table was in a less than stellar location at APE but we made the best of it. About 2 hours into the event on Saturday I lost my voice. Luckily I had my wonderful table mate and boyfriend Aleric to help out and make me a cute sign. Thank you to all the wonderful people who stopped by to support our studio!

We sold out of THE SEA OF IMAGINATION 13x19 Limited Edition Giclée’s we had at APE. But they are now available in the KatGirl Studio Shop.

CAM Alternative Press Expo Party: Monsters and Mayhem
On Saturday night Aleric, Erin, Dan and I catched the bus to the Cartoon Art Museum’s Monsters and Mayhem party. The party was tons of fun! Where else would you get to drink beer while sitting in a web comic’s exhibit making Halloween masks out of paper plates, ribbon and crayons? The Disney’s Sleeping Bauty exhibit was fantastic. If you live near SF the Cartoon Art Museum’s current shows are much see!

KatGirl Studio Will Be at APE 2009

KatGirl Studio along with Lost Graphics will be at the Alternative Press Expo (APE) this weekend. We will be at table #450 on the main floor. We’ll have Art Prints, mini books, postcards, bookmarks, buttons and Free “Con Exclusive Comic”!

Fanime Wrap Up

Fanime was fantastic and better than last year! It was a really long haul since we had been in our new place less than a week before Famine. We were pleased to see when we showed up this year that we were next to our friends from last year the Toon Twins and Cute Mew (Lisha). I also got to see some former classmates, childhood friends and KatGirl Studio fans from other cons. About our only complaint about Artist Alley was that this year there seemed to be less space behind the tables which made it a little hard for us artists to move round. But all and all the AA staff did a fantastic job!

I want to thank everyone who came by the KatGirl Studio table to support us. As with last year we had many items that sold out. For those who wanted one of those sold out items most will be available through the KatGirl Studio shop very soon. Hundreds of people signed up for the KatGirl Studio Book mailing list this past weekend and we want to thank you all for doing so. If you signed up for our mailing list at either WonderCon of Fanime you should have received an email. If you have not yet signed up to be notified when our books come out please email me at the aforementioned email and we will gladly add you to our list.

New KatGirl Studio Service Section
Many of you asked about commissions this past weekend and I would like to let you all know about the soon to be launched KatGirl Service section. The Service section will house all the information on commissioning Katgirl Studio for both personal and commercials projects. This service section will also include downloadable forms, step buy steps processes and other helpful information. So stay tuned!

Fanime 2009

KatGirl Studio, along with Lost Graphics will be at tables 209 and 210 in the Artist Alley room at Fanime 2009 May 22-25.

KatGirl Studio will be offering 5x7 mini matted prints, 8x10 standard prints, 8.5x11 Fine Art prints, 11x14 matted prints, Limited Edition 13x19 Gicleé’s, The Stalking the Elusive Quetzal mini color book, postcards, bookmarks, Mini Masterpiece Wearable Art necklaces, a few more surprises. We will also have the Stalking the Elusive Quetzal full size hand bound book dummy on display. So stop by and say hi!

WonderCon 2009 Review

Sorry about the late review I came down horribly sick when I got back from the con.

Our Table
The Matted Mini Prints and Mini Color books were a smash hit! In general, the response to my studio’s offerings were good. And due to overwhelming demand KatGirl Studio will be publishing the full length illustrated book Stalking the Elusive Quetzal later this year! We will also hopefully have studio shirts and Kiki plushies by famine since people kept trying to buy the ones we was wearing. If you really wanted one of our items and it A: Sold out or B: you ran out of cash, worry not because most of the items will also be featured in our Etsy shop. I’d like to say thank you to my best pal Sally Rose for being my table rep when I wasn’t there so I could get a chance to walk around.

Mike Mignola
Most of my friends know that as fair a “Super Heroes” go Hell Boy is my fav so I was really exited to be able to meet Hell Boys creater Mike Mignola. There a pretty funny story about how I ended up waiting in line twice to get my book signed and if you want the whole story let me know. But the short story ends with me getting a few things signed and us (me and Mike) doing impressions of our pet cats.

Stan Saki
My roommate owns most of the Usagi Yojimbo graphic novels and the “art of book” and so of course I’ve read all of the ones he has because well there awesome and two train rides become very boring. It’s a not so little know fact that Stan is one of the most hardworking comic artists/cartoonists in the US if not the world. besided getting a few books, posters and the art of book signed I also picked up one of the newer books we didn’t have from dark horse because he (Stan) had sold out already and it was only part of the way through sat.

Tracy Butler
I’ve been following her work since I was in high school and she’s one of the first people I started watching on DA. I really love her comic Lackadaisy and it was a big shock to round a corner and sew one of her characters in sculpture form at a book and then realize she was there and then realize whereas I had admired her for years I had no idea what she looked like. Luckily she was there and I got to tell her how much I loved her work. I also preordered her book because customs has seized their shipment of books for random drug search and they had sold out of the ones they had by 11am on Saturday.

Camilla D’Errico
Camilla among other things is the artist of Nightmares and Fairy Tales. I picked up her book some months back at my friend Anna’s comic store and really liked it. We saw her at APE and I kicked myself for forgetting to bring the book for her to sign. Luckily she was at the con and signed my book. As well her and the writer Serena will be doing a signing later this year at Anna’s store.

David Petersen
David is the artist and writer of Mouse Guard and I picked up a signed copy of his book as well at the con. I’ve only flipped through them a few times at Anna’s store but what I saw made my want to buy it. Who can say no to a book of such cute mice? I’d greatly looking forward to reading his comic.

Other Cool people I met were: Laurie B., Bobby Crosby (writer of Marry Me), Travis Hanson (he drew me a cool cat sketch), Gabrielle Pennacchioli (a Dreamworks animator and he sat next to us in AA), Steph Laberis (cool illustrator who gave me the last of her sold out buttons she found under her table) and many many more.

I’d also like to give lots of hugs to your friend Brian Kolm of Atomic Bear Press who’s father passed away this weekend. Hang in there Brian we’re all here for you.

KatGirl Studio at SAC Anime

I know it’s a bit last notice but I just found out yesterday that we got a table at SAC Anime. Because of the short notice my roommate won’t be able to make it so I have the table all to myself. KatGirl Studio will be at table #16 in the Small Press Zone. I will also have our new table pet Huginn Valravn (Hue-in Val-riven) so stop by to find out what he is. I’ll have prints, Giclees, fine art prints, print tests (artist proofs), and buttons. Sometime in the middle of each day I will also be giving mini book demos so please stop by and say hi!

APE and Halloween

Halloween was fun. I went to the Illusive Comics Halloween party again and for once there were a ton of people I didn’t know.


APE
Ape was wicked awesome except for the rain. It was raining buckets in the city when we got there and we had to walk a couple blocks to the event. Umbrellas did very little because it was also blustery and the rain was practically raining sideways. So when we got there the whole front of my clothes from head to toe was soaked. First thing we did was eat lunch and then we saw Jennie’s table so we rushed over there. I brought her a goody bag of candy and stuff I had made and we chatted with her for awhile and I got some awesome pins and a sketch form her. You should check out her web comic www.thedevilspanties.com it’s really good. After that we started in one corner and walked down every table which took us till the event closed.

Shelly Wan whom I got a large beautiful print from because she’s one of my fav artists.
Camilla d’Errico who is the artist of Nightmares & Fairy Tales. I almost cried when I saw her there because I hadn’t brought my book for her to sign.

SiliCon

Thanks to all of you who came to see me at SiliCon I really enjoyed meeting you! I also got to meet a lot of fellow artists some of which also went to the Academy. My panel and workshop went well and people seemed to find value in what I was talking about. I hope to do more panels and workshops in the future.

I also got to meet Peter S. Begal again hopefully my camera won’t eat the picture this time. As well I got an out of print children’s book illustrated by K. Craft. She’s one of my favorites and not only was the book signed but was hand decorated on the inside as well which made me very happy. KatGirl Studio helped raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes fund and Alzheimer’s Aid Society by donating some of my art to the charity auction.

I don’t know if we’ll be at any other events this year since currently we are on waiting lists for a few and you know how that is, so I will leave you with invisible cup tennis.

Party at Illusive

On Saturday I biked with my family to the Santa Clara Art and Wine to check out display ideas and run into people I’ve known my whole life. The festival is different from others because it takes place in the city and not a down town (because we don’t have one). As well all the food booths benefit different charities and groups along with most of the drinks. While sitting in the grass eating lunch we ran into my friend Jet who mentioned it was my friend Tim’s B-day party at Illusive later that day. Illusive is my friend Anna’s comic book store also in Santa Clara, she’s awesome and throws cool holiday parties full of geekiness. People show up, catch up with each other’s lives, munch on food and rock out to the music being piped out of Rock band. We laugh, show each other cool things we found on the web and generally just hang out in a safe geek-friendly environment. Illusive’s not your typical comic store and offer’s a nice mix of comic’s for both children and adults, art book, manga, funny shirt’s, geeky buttons, games and more.
